CSM BLANKS CCSF, 10-0; TAKES 8-G STREAK INTO TITLE SHOWDOWN WITH MISSION

SAN MATEO -- Cole Sperling, Christain Ontai, and JJ Ota all banged out run scoring doubles in the fifth inning as College of San Mateo broke open a scoreless game with five runs on those hits and went on to blank visiting City College of San Francisco, 10-0, in a vital Coast Golden Gate Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (25-11) won their eighth consecutive game to remain tied for first place with Mission College at 14-4 – entering a title concluding home-and-home series with the Saints on Tuesday (in Santa Clara) and Thursday (at home), both at 2:30 p.m. CSM is 25-11 for the season. (Only state-top ranked San Joaquin Delta, at nine games, has a longer streak among Northern California’s 44 CC teams.)

Sperling, as designated hitter, had two doubles in the game, accounting for four RBI’s

Starting pitcher Jamie Kruger (7-4) allowed just two hits over seven innings, striking out eight and lowering his season E.R.A. to 2.74. He paces the Golden Gate with 67 strikeouts and with seven wins (one more win than teammate Sean Prozell).

CCSF fell to 7-29, 0-18 in GG play, with Max Lopez (0-6) getting tagged for the loss (although not giving up an earned run over his six innings).

NO HELP FROM DONS: De Anza took a 4-0 lead at Mission Saturday but couldn’t hold it as the Saints erupted for 10 runs in the fifth en route to a 14-10 comeback victory to stay tied with CSM for the league lead.
