Dear Friends,
Violence against women is rampant. Seventy percent of women worldwide will experience physical or sexual abuse by an intimate partner in their lifetime. In the U.S., nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner. One in five women and one in 71 men in the U.S. have been raped in their lifetime.

The impact of sexual trauma is severe and very difficult to overcome. In addition to being physically and psychologically scarred, victims are often re-victimized by being discredited and dismissed. This was on blatant display during the Justice Kavanaugh confirmation hearings. His testimony in response to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s reporting of sexual assault was a slap in the face to survivors across the country. This fall, Republicans in Congress failed to reauthorize VAWA, the Violence Against Women Act, beyond a three months extension until after the election.
Women deserve better. That’s why I am hosting a panel sending a clear message: We believe survivors. I hope you will join me for this important conversation that will focus on healing and recovering from trauma.
During the event, we will explore the transition from victim to survivor. I will moderate a panel of survivors, service providers, academics, and law enforcement. Look for a list of the panelist soon in this space.
