Article Source: U.S. Representative Jackie Speier - CA

Please join Congersswoman Speier, State Senator Jerry Hill, Assemblyman Kevin Mullin, and San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine for "A Conversation about America: A Robust Economy and a Housing Crisis- What are Solutions?" on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 1 pm at the Skyline College Theater.

Government has a significant role in the housing market. One key tool for creating affordable housing is the federal low income housing tax credit program. In the best of circumstances, these credits can deliver 50%+ of the funds needed to create new affordable units. Other sources of funds are state and local. Together with philanthropy, there are options to create new units and to address our housing needs.

We will discuss opportunities within our area for the creation of new affordable housing. We will be joined by experts from Mid-Pen Housing, Mercy Housing and Eden Housing, three of this region’s largest developers of affordable housing units. They will answer questions about two opportunities: Sites at properties owned by religious denominations and property at the site of the former Peninsula Hospital. This site is owned by the Peninsula Health Care District. Faith and civic leaders will join us to ask questions about both opportunities. As always, the audience will also be able to ask questions.
