SAN MATEO -- Kyana Wiley led a trio of College of San Mateo players in double figures with 15 points as the Lady Bulldogs ran past visiting Las Positas College, 72-50, in a Coast North Conference women’s basketball game on Saturday (Jan. 19).
CSM started the game with an 11-1 run but let LPC close the first period with its own 10-point run for a brief 13-12 lead at the quarter. Then San Mateo got serious with 12-point streak on steals and breaks to start the second period and never looked back, pushing it to the final 22-point margin.

Megan Jajeh had 13 points, four assists, and three steals. Brittney Lewis added ten points. Guard Kaitlyn Tamondong had four steals (three leading to quick baskets) and four assists, while totaling nine points (including a 3-pointer). Wiley, a 5-10 sophomore forward out of Oceans High, also had three steals, two assists, and a block.
San Mateo is now tied for third place in the Coast North with Skyline at 2-2 and is 7-9 overall. Las Positas feel to 1-3 and 6-11. The Bulldogs are 4-2 at home, losing only to two of the state’s top teams (San Francisco and Sequoias). CSM next visits San Jose City college on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

CSM SOFTBALL & BASEBALL SET TO BEGIN PLAY
SOFTBALL: The College of San Mateo softball team, ranked No. 1 in the state for much of last season, faces two recent state champions in Saturday’s (Jan. 26) opening games at Bakersfield College, site of the 2019 state finals.
The Bulldogs open with defending champion Mt. San Antonio at 2 pm.; then play 2016 champion Santiago Canyon at 5 p.m. They will complete the weekend triple header on Sunday with an 11 a.m. contest with host Bakersfield. CSM plays at home for the first time on Feb. 1 in a doubleheader with Sierra and Siskiyous.
BASEBALL: College of San Mateo opens the 2019 baseball season on Saturday (Jan. 26) at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill at 1 p.m. First home game for the Bulldogs, ranked No. 8 in Northern California in the coaches association preseason poll, is Tuesday, Jan. 29, against Solano College at 2 p.m.
