CSM BLANKS SIERRA & SISKIYOUS IN HOME SOFTBALL DEBUT
Jamie Madigan started the day with a first inning home run and ended it scoring the mercy rule walkoff run on a single by Rachel Moran as College of San Mateo swept Sierra College, 5-0, and College of the Siskiyous, 8-0, Thursday afternoon in home season softball openers.

CSM got a pair of complete game shutouts from its starting pitchers. Emily McAdams (2-0) held Sierra scoreless over seven innings of the first game, scattering four hits, striking out six, and walking just one. Kaitlyn Grech, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored a run as designated player against Sierra, made her first mound appearance of the season against Siskiyous (0-2) and blanked the Eagles over the 6-inning game.
“Out pitchers were great and we played pretty good defense behind them,” said CSM coach Nicole Borg.
CSM (4-1), ranked No. 2 in the state in the coaches association preseason poll, had started in the Bakersfield 3-way invitational last weekend, beating No. 1 Mt. San Antonio College (the reigning state champions), 6-5.
Sierra was No. 3 in the preseason poll so the No. 2 Bulldogs have already topped No. 1 and No. 3 – including their top foes in both the south and north!
Freshman Riley Donovan was a “perfect” 3-for-3 with a single, double, and triple against Sierra. She also had a Sacrifice fly and a double against Siskiyous, each for RBIs.
Sierra (1-1) defeated Siskiyous, 9-1 in six innings in the other game of Thursday’s triple header on CSM’s synthetic turf field.
--The three games were moved up a day due to predicted rain. CSM will, however, try to complete a 2-day series with Siskiyous at 10 a.m. on Friday.

CSM UPSETS 2ND PLACE CHABOT TO MOVE TO WITHIN A GAME OF GLADS IN COAST BASKETBALL
College of San Mateo put on a late surge to knock off second place Chabot College, 66-61, in a Coast North women’s basketball game Wednesday evening.
The win brings the Bulldogs (3-3) to within a game of now co-second Chabot (4-2) in the Coast standings at the end of the first half of league play.
A steal and lay-up by Megan Jajeh gave the Bulldogs the lead at 57-55 with 4:52 to play during a 6-point run and CSM held off the visiting Gladiators down the stretch. San Mateo led only 61-60 with two minutes to play before scoring the next four points, keyed by a backwards 3-point play. Victoria Mataele made the first of two free throws and Kyana Wiley put back the missed second attempt for a 64-60 margin with 1:29 left. CSM (8-10 overall) limited Chabot (15-8 and ranked No. 7 in Northern California) to just a free throw made the rest of the way.
Kaitlyn Tamondong led San Mateo scorers with 15 points. Emily Latu had 11 points. Wiley added ten points and led CSM rebounders with six. Jajeh had five assists and seven points. Chabot’s Zakiya Mahoney led all scorers with 24 points before fouling out.
--CSM hosts Ohlone (0-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m. to start second half play before a crucial meeting with visiting rival and now co-second Skyline (4-2) Wednesday at 5 p.m. at San Mateo.
