CSM SOFTBALL SWEEPS 3 TOP FOES, 30-0, AS GRECH & UBOIS SMACK HRs
SAN MATEO – Kaitlyn Grech and Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen smashed home runs as College of San Mateo swept 2nd and 3rd place softball foes from three other conferences by a combined 30-0 count in 5-inning mercy-rule games over the weekend.

The scores:
--CSM 8, San Jose City College 0, with Emily McAdams pitching a 3-hitter and striking out five;
--CSM 14, College of the Redwoods 0, with Brittany Prock allowing just four hits and striking out three (no walks) to make her season record 5-1;
--CSM 8, American River College 0, with McAdams allowing just two hits and striking out seven to increase her season record to 7-1 on Sunday. She leads the Coast North with 70 strikeouts.
McAdams also had a perfect day at the plate in the first game with three hits while scoring three times, supported by a second-inning solo blast by Ubois-Weitnhagen.
Grech had seven RBIs over the weekend, including five against Redwoods – four coming on a grand slam homer in the fourth inning. Her first inning RBI double provided the initial and winning run, however.
Aubrie Businger scored runs in all three games. Hailey Hiett had four hits and scored four times. Kaylyn Sterline had three hits and scored three runs.
CSM NO. 1 IN NORCAL: San Mateo (15-2) remains the top community college team in Northern California in the Massey Ratings and is the only team to beat reigning state champion and overall top rated Mt. San Antonio.
COAST OPENER TUESDAY: CSM begins Coast North Conference play this week, visiting Mission College
(0-2 overall) on Tuesday and Foothill College (16-1) on Thursday, both at 3 p.m. Foothill brought a 12-game winning streak into the week.

Foalu Tops In Shot:
CSM’S LIAO RUNS STATE LEADING WOMEN’S 100 METER TIME FOR 3RD STRAIGHT WEEK
Yan-Jun (Sophie) Liao ran a new state pacesetting women’s 100 meter time for the third weekend in a row to highlight College of San Mateo performances in Saturday’s Beaver Invitational at American River College in Sacramento. The 19-year-old freshman exchange student from China also won the 200 meters in 25.43, just off her currently Northern California leading mark of 25.20 in that event.
Elijah Folau topped the Bulldog men’s performances by adding to his state-leading shot put mark with a put of 49 feet, 3 inches.
Taina Livai won the women’s javelin throw with the top mark in Northern California, 115-3 (No. 3 in the state). Teme Fanguna had a pair of state-ranking marks in the women’s throws, 113-6 in the discus (No. 11) and 35-11½ in the shot put (No. 11).
--San Mateo will host the CCCAA state championships, May 17-18.
