SAN MATEO – Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen has hit back-to-back grand slam home runs for College of San Mateo’s softball team, a fete seldom accomplished at any level of the sport. Longtime CSM coach (and former player) Nicole Borg could not recall ever seeing that accomplished.

Weitenhagen had smacked a slam in a first place Coast Conference battle between the state’s two winningest teams at Foothill College on Thursday in her last at bat to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead after five innings. That ended the game with the 8-run mercy margin.

When the freshman rightfielder came to bat in the first inning against College of the Siskiyous on Saturday the bases were loaded with two outs. Working to a full count, Weitenhagen shot the ball over the center field fence past the 200 foot mark to provide the only runs the Bulldogs really needed. They won 10-0.

She wasn’t done however, doubling in a run in the second inning and then hitting a solo shot in the fourth. She went a “perfect” 3-for-3 on the day with an amazing seven RBIs – 11 in the two games in which she scored four times (3 times on round trippers).

Pitchers Emily McAdams (9-1) and Kaitlyn Grech each threw a pair of no-hit innings against Siskiyous (3-11). Closer Brittany Prock gave up the lone Eagles hit before ending it in the fifth.

Jamie Madigan also had a pair of hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Riley Donovan had a double and scored twice.

CSM’S FOLAU INCREASES STATE SHOT PUT LEAD; WOMEN’S 100 LEADER LIAO STAYS UNBEATEN

Elijah Folau increased his state men’s shot put lead for College of San Mateo with a winning mark of 49 feet, 5 inches at Modesto JC’s Jack Albiani Invitational Friday. The Bulldogs freshman added 2 inches to the leading mark he had set the previous week.

State women’s 100 meter leader Yan-Jun (Sophie) Liao remained undefeated in that event, winning easily in 12.29 seconds. It was slightly off her state pacesetting 12.09 time run a week earlier in Sacramento. The Bulldogs freshman suffered her first loss of the year in the 200 meters, just being edged by .01 by Daryia Greene of Sacramento City College in 25.19. That also took the Northern Calif. Lead from Liao, by the same narrow margin.

Freshman Teme Fanguna was second in the women’s discus throw at 129 feet, 6 inches, which ranks fourth in the state. Emily March of Diablo Valley produced the state’s best mark so far at 152-0 to win the competition.

Fanguna placed fourth in the elite women’s shot put competition at 37-3 3/4, moving up to No. 9 in the state. Sophomore Taina Livai had a season best of 35-8, good for No. 16 in the state. Livai was second in the women’s javelin throw at 103-2, a bit off her best of 115-3 -- which ranks third in the state and would have won the competition.

Quincy Daniels moved into the state top 20 in the men’s javelin throw, placing second at 148-3.

--San Mateo will host the CCCAA state championships, May 17-18.
