The showdown between the state’s two winningest community college softball teams turned into just another blowout for College of San Mateo. Emily McAdams tossed CSM’s fifth mercy-rule shutout of the week as the Bulldogs took down host Foothill, 8-0, in a Coast North first place battle on Thursday.

Both teams are now 17-2 for the season. But CSM has a 10-game winning streak and a “perfect” 2-0 Coast North record. Foothill fell to 1-1. The Bulldogs have outscored the week’s five opponents, 56-0!

Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen had a grand slam home run in the fifth inning to give CSM the 8-run margin needed to end the game after that frame.

McAdams allowed just two hits, increasing her record to 9-1 – which is fourth in the state for wins. She added four strikeouts to up her NorCal leading total to 81 (No. 2 in the state) and lowered her earned run average to 0.93. McAdams aided her cause with a pair of hits and scored a run.

Aubrie Businger had a double and stole a base. Kaylyn Sterling stole two more bases. They share No. 3 ranking in the state with 15 steals for the season.

Foothill’s Mailey McLemore came in as the state’s winningest pitcher but got stuck with a 13-2 record. She gave up seven earned runs to see her E.R.A. drop to 1.80. She is the state leader in runs batted in with 32 -- but had no luck against McAdams.
