FEMA’s Nationwide EAS and WEA Test

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a nationwide EAS and WEA test on September 20 to assess national warning capabilities. The test includes radio, television, cable stations, and compatible cell phones. It will start around 2:18 p.m. ET. This will be the first nationwide WEA test, and it will use the Presidential Alerts category.

Talk to your family about the test so no one is alarmed. Use this opportunity to make a family communication plan. Then, put your plan to the test. Follow these steps:

  • Fill out a Family Communication Plan.
  • Make sure your family knows the plan.
  • Use your plan to ensure your family received the WEA and EAS test on September 20.
