Fire Hydrant Toppled in Hit-and-Run Accident
No one was injured and traffic wasn't affected, authorities said.
A fire hydrant on the corner of Magnolia Avnue and Capuchino Avenue was run over this afternoon in what police and onlookers suspect to be a hit-and-run accident.
The hydrant began spouting close to 40 feet in the air after 3:05 p.m., close to the time students were let out at .
Firefighters and police arrived on the scene shortly after to find the hydrant on its side and the bumper of a car sitting 10 feet away from the hydrant, leading police to believe a car hit the hydrant.
One police officer said there was no serial number on the bumper to help authorities identify the vehicle.
The Millbrae Public Works Water Division stopped the spouting water at about 3:35 p.m., as Capuchino students and faculty looked on.
No one was injured nor was traffic near the school significantly affected, police said.
Correction: This story incorrectly stated that the Millbrae fire department stopped the spouting water from the fire hydrant that was struck by a car. The Millbrae public works department fixed the hydrant.
