SamTrans Offers Free Bus Rides Friday

In response to persistent unhealthy air quality conditions stemming from the Northern California wildfires, the San Mateo County Transit District announced that all SamTrans fixed-route bus service will be free on Friday, November 16.

Public health officials around the Bay Area are encouraging residents to remain indoors to avoid exposure to air quality that has become increasingly more polluted over the last 24 hours. Making transit free will maximize access to enclosed transportation and provide more residents with options to avoid being outdoors.

The Transit District wants to minimize the amount of time people spend outdoors, and free transit will ensure that everyone has access to a safe travel alternative. Passengers will not need to display proof of purchase in order to ride a SamTrans bus, and should not tag their Clipper card when boarding.
