The Bay Area has been Google’s hometown for more than 20 years, and we are committed to being a part of the solution to address the region’s urgent housing crisis. These latest investments are an important step in that direction and our largest to date to help communities where we live and work succeed over the long term.
In January, Governor Newsom challenged successful private sector companies to step up and invest meaningfully in housing in California. The cost crisis is one of the defining challenges of our time, and the Governor believes California’s corporations can play a positive and active role in addressing it.
Here is Governor Newsom's On the Record Statement:
“Google recognizes that it has an important role to play in addressing California’s cost crisis,” said Governor Newsom. “I applaud Google's leadership for stepping forward to build affordable homes for California’s working families. I hope today’s announcement inspires other companies -- big and small -- to make similar direct investments in housing affordability throughout our state.”
