Got trash?

The San Bruno Beautification Task Force and Councilwoman Irene O'Connell, Chair, had noticed an unusual amount of trash in our main downtown street of San Mateo Avenue (also known as the "Avenues").

Determined to take matters into their own hands, so to speak, they organized a once-a-month clean-up. For over two years members of the Task Force and other volunteers, under the leadership of Councilwoman O'Connell, have gathered to pick up trash and debris in our downtown.

"It is wonderful to see so many people participating in picking up litter - especially cigarette butts that would eventually make their way through our storm drains and into the Bay, polluting our environment. While city staff works hard and diligently to keep the streets and sidewalks clean, they can't do it all. It is up to every single one of us to make a difference - to pick up any trash you see and dispose of it properly," says Councilwoman O'Connell. "I wish to thank the members of the Beautification Task Force and everyone who has helped in our continued efforts."

Interested in helping? Meet in the parking lot behind Centennial Plaza on the last Sunday of each month (unless it is raining). Clean- up starts at 10 a.m. and lasts for approximately an hour. All equipment is provided.

Councilwoman O'Connell and the Beautification Task Force also initiated and manage Operation Clean Sweep, a city-wide clean-up event scheduled for the first Saturday in May. Visit our city website for more information closer to the day.
