Human Remains Discovered At San Bruno Park
Maintenance staff at the park found the bones near a high point of the mountain during routine park management.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigation the discovery of human remains earlier this week at the San Bruno Mountain State and County Park.
San Mateo County Parks staff on Tuesday evening discovered human remains, which appear to have been there for a long time, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Detective Rosemerry Blankswade said in a video posted on Twitter.
“We have Sheriff’s Office detectives as well as the crime lab here investigating who this person was and how they died,” Blankswade said in the video. “One thing is certain though, is that they have been here for quite some time.

Maintenance staff at the park found the bones near a high point of the mountain during routine park management, Blankswade said in an interview Thursday.
"We don't have any evidence that leads us to believe that there is foul play involved," she said. "But this is such an old scene that a lot of the evidence has probably diminished over time."

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office are working to investigate the case and determine the identity of the person, their cause of death and how long the bones could have been there.
San Bruno Mountain State and County Park was closed to the public Thursday due to the ongoing investigation.
