Names were placed in a hat, and one student from each class was selected to participate… for a total of seventeen youngsters performing the “Sliming” of their very popular retiring Principal Frances Dunleavy.

Lily Cunningham’s mother, first grade teacher, Mrs. Lisa Cunningham prepared the “Slime” in large buckets comprised of water, green Jello, flour, and baby shampoo.

Students eagerly anticipated and viewed “The sliming” of revered Principal, Dr. Frances Dunleavy. This was especially noteworthy, as Principal Dunleavy will be retiring following a distinguished career as an outstanding educator.

At the conclusion of the “Sliming” … three very loud “Hip, Hip, Hoorays” were given to Principal Dunleavy for being such a fabulous “Good-sport!”

What Educators will do to encourage students to become “Life-long” readers!

The “Sliming” activity was followed by the student versus staff Newcomb game competition. For the first time in many years the student championship team won against the staff. Newcomb ball (also known simply as Newcomb is a ball game played as a variation of volleyball. Invented in 1895 by Clara Baer, a physical education instructor at Sophie Newcomb College, Tulane University in New Orleans, this game rivaled volleyball in popularity and participation in the 1920s.

A great day was enjoyed by the entire John Muir Student Body, Staff, and Parents.
