The San Francisco Giants 3 World Championship Trophies Are Visiting San Mateo and Your Visit to See Them Will Benefit the PAL Kids!!

February 2nd, 2015 -- 4 to 6pm -- San Mateo Elks Lodge 229 West 20th Avenue, San Mateo, CA

LARGE CROWDS AND PARKING AND TRAFFIC CONGESTION EXPECTED!

PARKING AND TRAFFIC UPDATE: Due to the overwhelming response to our original media and community release on January 2nd that announced this amazing event, traffic congestion in the area is expected to be higher than normal so we are asking the public to please arrive early and be patient. Parking will be available at the Elks Lodge at 228 West 20th Avenue but due to the number of attendees the lot is expected to fill early. Additional parking is available at the California Casualty parking lot at 20th and Alameda de Las Pulgas, the Serra High School east lot off 20th and Stratford Way, and the San Mateo City Hall at 330 West 20th. Signage will be available diverting traffic when additional parking is needed.

FROM OUR ORIGINAL MEDIA AND COMMUNITY RELEASE:
The San Francisco Giants World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America will continue its public tour and visit our beautiful City of San Mateo at the Elks Lodge on February 2nd, 2015. The 2010, 2012 and 2014 Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s Trophies, crafted by Tiffany & Co., will be on display to celebrate the World Series Champions with devoted Giants fans throughout northern and central California, Oregon and Nevada, all along the way helping to raise funds and awareness for the Junior Giants program!

Your San Mateo visit with the trophies is free to the public but a voluntary contribution of $2 per person is suggested and the proceeds will directly benefit the kids of the San Mateo PAL Junior Giants Program!!

“On behalf of the San Mateo Police Activities League of the City of San Mateo, we are incredibly excited to welcome the Giants World Champions trophies to San Mateo,” said PAL Program Coordinator / Junior Giants Commissioner Mo Mazzocco. “In 2014, the San Mateo Police Activities League Junior Giants program served over 260 children who live in the area. By coming out to view the trophies, our community members are also supporting our Junior Giants League and their support is much appreciated!”

The San Mateo trophy stop is also shared with the San Bruno Junior Giants League. San Bruno Junior Giants Commissioner Lorry Greenberg said, “It is really a great honor to be part of such professional organization that focuses on the youth in our community. The Giants really hit it out of the ballpark with this program.” The San Bruno Junior Giants program served over 300 children who live in the area.

Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 22,000 boys and girls in 87 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon. It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives. Using baseball, the Junior Giants provides opportunities for youth to link with adult mentors and to learn about the program’s Four Bases of Character Development: Confidence, Integrity, Leadership and Teamwork. Here in San Mateo, the Junior Giants program has been running as a San Mateo PAL Program for 13 years and many of its participants would not otherwise have the opportunity or means to play baseball. Your family visit to see the trophies in San Mateo on February 2nd will help keep our PAL kids on the Junior Giants diamond!

Volunteer coaches are needed for the upcoming eight-week San Mateo Police Activities League Junior Giants season that begins this summer. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Mo Mazzocco at mmazzocco@cityofsanmateo.org or (650) 522-7553.
