SAN MATEO -- Ignited by Aubrie Businger’s leadoff home run, College of San Mateo’s Northern California pacesetting women’s softball team powered to four weekend wins at home to extend its current winning streak to five games. The Bulldogs (12-2) defeated College of the Sequoias, 6-1, and 11-3 (5 innings) on Friday. Riley Donovan hit a solo homer and scored twice in the mercy rule second game.
On Saturday, CSM defeated state No. 11 ranked Reedley, 7-1, and blanked Shasta, 5-0.

Emily McAdams hurled victories both days to improve her season record to 5-1. It was a 3-win week for the sophomore out of Sequoia High School. She was also the winner in Tuesday’s 8-0 shutout of Solano, with a 1-hitter. Only a single opponent reached base in that game. She allowed just two hits over four innings against Sequoias, striking out five, and throwing a complete 7-inning 1-hit game against Reedley, with nine K’s. McAdams helped herself with three hits, scoring three times in the two weekend contests.
She leads state pitchers with 58 strikeouts
Kaitlyn Grech had San Mateo’s third home run of the weekend against Shasta while throwing a complete game shutout. The sophomore from Woodside High had three hits over the weekend and drove in four runs. She is batting .432 and slugging .705
Kaylyn Sterling had four hits, including a double and a triple, and scored five runs in the four games. The freshman from Mercy (Burlingame) is hitting .319 and slugging .742
Businger ranks among the top half dozen sluggers in the state with three home runs so far. She is batting .378.
CSM NO. 1 IN NORCAL: San Mateo (12-2) remains the top community college team in Northern California in the Massey Ratings and is the only team to beat reigning state champion and overall top rated Mt. San Antonio. Two other Southern California teams, Cypress and Palomar, remain ahead of the Bulldogs in the state ratings.
THIS WEEK: CSM visits Cabrillo on Tuesday (Feb. 26) and Sacramento City College on Thursday; then comes home to host 4 weekend games before opening Coast North Conference play next week. The weekend series kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday against San Jose City College, followed by a 2 p.m. game with Diablo Valley College. On Sunday, San Mateo faces College of the Redwoods at 10 a.m. and American River College at 2 p.m.
