San Bruno, CA. April 11, 2019. Under the leadership of music directors Ciana Whitfield and Elyse Mahfouz, Parkside Intermediate School’s music students are treated throughout the year to guest appearances and master classes by internationally recognized musicians. In recent weeks, the Israeli Chamber Project performed at Parkside and nationally recognized band director and state competition judge John Bremis conducted a master class.

Mr. Bremis, a public school music educator for over thirty years, is in demand as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor, noted for his superior leadership of award winning bands and ensembles that he led throughout the US and abroad.

The Israeli Chamber Project (ICP) brings together some of today’s most distinguished musicians for chamber music concerts and educational and outreach programs throughout the US and abroad. Based both in Israel and in New York, the ensemble was created as a means for its members to give something back to the community where they began their musical education. A strong advocate for music education, the ICP has partnered with several conservatories and educational institutions; in order to offer lessons and master classes to students of all cultural and economic backgrounds, many of whom have little or no opportunity to work with internationally recognized musicians. Parkside music teachers have forged a strong partnership with Music at Kohl Mansion, who sponsored the Israeli Chamber Project performand/master class at Parkside. Members of ICP who performed are Assaff Weisman (piano), Daniel Bard (violin), Tony Rymer (cello) and Tibi Cziger (clarinet).

On April 12, Parkside music students went on their own concert tour, performing at each an assembly at each elementary.

Parkside Intermediate School is San Bruno’s only public middle school. Nearly half the student body is enrolled in instrumental music, nurturing talent that feeds into Capuchino High School’s excellent music program. A grant several years ago from San Bruno Community Foundation to San Bruno Education Foundation and Capuchino Alumni Association ($495,000) is funding music for all elementary school children in San Bruno Park School District, which is expanding the talent that eventually matriculates to Parkside and then to Capuchino.
