Celebrating its 13th year, the Giants Community Fund is proud to continue its scholarship program for 13-year-old Junior Giants students. Emphasizing the importance of self-esteem, teamwork and leadership, this scholarship commends a commitment to academics and community service through assisting students to achieve goals of higher education and promoting active community involvement. The goal of this program is to provide students with the incentive and motivation to actualize their full potential.

In 2009, the Junior Giants Scholars program was renamed the Harmon and Sue Burns Scholarship Fund in honor of the late Giants owners Harmon and Sue Burns. Both Harmon and Sue were generous supporters of the Giants Community Fund. Sue served on the Giants Community Fund Board of Directors and was a valuable member of the Education committee. The Fund is thankful to The Burns Family Foundation and Franklin Templeton Investments for underwriting the scholarship program in honor of Harmon and Sue.

Ten Scholars will be selected the summer before they enter eighth grade and will receive a $5,000 scholarship upon successful completion of high school and acceptance to college or a training program.

Daryl Chin provided the following:

Here is background on Teanna -

Teanna Bautista-Leung has hit a home run with the Junior Giants for the past 3 years! Teanna had very little baseball skills when she started, but now can confidently play first base, catching those screaming throws from the boys, as well as make good contact with those pitches from the pitching machine donated by the Junior Giants Community Fund. Teanna truly represents our Four Bases of Character – Confidence, Teamwork, Leadership and Integrity. One of her teacher’s describes Teanna as “one of the best students that I have ever had. She is a kind, thoughtful person, who puts exceptional effort into everything she does. She is academically very strong and that combined with her strength of character makes for one outstanding young lady.”

Teanna had chosen another Harmon and Sue Burns Award winner from San Bruno, Brittany Chin, as her role model! Brittany just graduated from Capuchino High as Valedictorian and will receive her $5000 scholarship on August 15th. She will be honored at home plate with nine other recipients right before the game starts. As award winners, they also receive a personalized Giants Jersey with their name and the number 15, as the year they receive the award.

We are very proud of all our award winners

Respectfully,

Daryl Chin
