This year’s San Bruno Rotary Club’s George Kristovich teaching award was presented to Amanda Kunze, teacher at Rollingwood Elementary School. “The award recognizes a teacher who demonstrates exemplary character, building traits essential to the future success of students both personally and academically”, commented Rotarian Denise Granville in her remarks about Ms. Kunze delivered at the District’s Board of Trustees meeting on May 8.

Ms. Granville continued: “Amanda has dedicated years to helping Rollingwood teach to the whole child. She is innovative in her teaching strategies and teaches her students to make a difference in the world, including care for the environment. Last year, she volunteered to reach a 2nd/3rd/5th grade class so that Rollingwood could avoid multiple combination classes. That effort was so successful that parents requested their children be put in her class.”

Ms. Granville shared a student’s comments about Ms. Kunze: , “What I like about her is a lot of things – like she is fun and an enjoyable teacher and person. Whenever I’m feeling down, she cheers me up I’m not upset because she tells me things about me that make me a good person. She inspires me and others to believe in ourselves.”

In presenting the well-deserved award, Ms. Granville was joined by San Bruno Rotary Club President Greg Pierce.
