The Community Gallery

Located on the lower level of 400 County Center the Community Gallery is currently showing “Breathing Space” from September 3 through October 30. Featuring the work of six Abilities United artists living in the San Mateo County, the exhibition explores how artists use the lens of their experiences to explore and interpret the wider world. Michael Broadhurst, Chelsey Fineberg, and Joseph Omolayole each create paintings that explore animals, places, and feelings associated with relaxation. Whether it's an exciting trip to Africa or a quiet morning alone their artwork portrays themes in an array of stunning colors and styles.

While Michael Broadhurst’s work depicts a utopic world where humans, nature, animals, and imaginary creatures live in harmony, Joseph Omolayole explores the poetry of symbols related to the circle of seasons and the passage of time. Chelsey Fineberg combines abstraction, geometric shapes, and text into colorful vignettes of her reality, populated with rainbow animals and multicolored objects. Newcomers Maria Elena Arreola, Jerome Smith, and Maritza Velasco bring their worlds to life with bold colors and enthusiastic brush strokes.
