We understand that some federal employees are struggling to pay bills and feed their families due to the ongoing partial federal government shutdown.

Here's a list of resources from both public agencies and nonprofit partners that are offering services to our local furloughed workers and impacted County clients.

Financial Assistance
San Mateo Credit Union is offering 0% and low-interest rate loan options for federal employees and contractors impacted by the shutdown. Learn more by calling (650) 363-1725 or visit https://bit.ly/2syXR36.

Navy Federal Credit Union is offering 0% loans up to $6,000 for federal government employees and active-duty service members of the Coast Guard. Learn more by calling (888) 842-6328 or visit https://nfcu.me/2WhN62B.

Unemployment Benefits
Impacted federal workers can apply for state unemployment benefits (although benefits will need to be repaid if workers recover lost wages). Learn more by calling the Employment Development Department at (855) 327-7056 or visit http://bit.ly/2B3luFL.

Food Assistance
Second Harvest Food Bank offers a number of locations that provide free groceries through a network of local food pantries. Learn more by calling (800) 984-3663 or visit https://www.shfb.org/get-food/.

CalFresh, California's food stamp program, provides expedited service for qualified applicants. Learn more by calling (800) 233-8383 or visit https://www.getcalfresh.org/.

Emergency Housing, Utility Assistance and More
The County's Human Services Agency works closely with eight community-based service agencies to provide individuals and families with basic emergency and support services. These services include emergency housing and utility assistance, crisis intervention and referrals. Core Service Agencies are located throughout the county. Transportation Assistance
The San Mateo County Transit District provides free bus and train rides throughout its service areas to all federal government employees who are affected by the partial government shutdown. Federal workers can ride free by showing their federal government employee identification cards to bus operators on SamTrans (http://www.samtrans.com/) and to conductors on Caltrain (http://www.caltrain.com/). Free service will remain available for the duration of the government shutdown.
