Redwood City — San Mateo County officials Wednesday will celebrate the near-completion of the new $10 million Skylonda Fire Station that replaces a deteriorated 1939 facility with modern firefighter quarters and vehicle space that will help speed response.
Fire Station 58 is being constructed in two phases and the Sept. 19, 2018, ribbon cutting marks a significant milestone. The new station has a two-story, 12,037-square-foot main building and a 1,638-square-foot vehicle building. The current station, which sits adjacent on the three-acre site, will be demolished following the second phase in March 2019.

The new fire station’s highlights include:

- Improved living quarters and a combined 628-square-foot conference/training room
- Site improvements, including remediation of the sewage disposal system;
- A new driveway to Skyline Boulevard for improved access.
The County contracts with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) for service through Skylonda Fire Station No. 58 for Kings Mountain, La Honda, Upper Woodside and Skyline Boulevard.
