Background Information
After the release of the Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment and under the directive from the County Board of Supervisors to continue to assist the County and cities prepare for the impacts of sea level rise, Sea Change SMC is embarking on a number of efforts to develop local climate preparedness tools and strategies, in partnership with cities and other stakeholders.
One of these efforts is in partnership with Stanford’s Natural Capital Project and the San Francisco Estuary Institute to identify feasibility of nature-based adaptation strategies along the Bayshore and develop approaches for future shoreline protection and management for specific geographic areas, known asOperational Landscape Units (OLUs).
At the last Sea Change SMC Stakeholder Meeting, SFEI and the Natural Capital Project provided a summary presentation on this project.
You are invited to join us for an interactive workshop to:
- Review what an OLU is and understand the local vulnerabilities to sea level rise;
- Share your local needs and perspectives around sea level rise adaptation strategies;
- Explore adaptation strategies and tradeoffs based on how the strategies affect the baylands, and the benefits they provide (e.g. access to open space, coastal resilience).
For questions about this workshop, please reach out to Jasneet Sharma at 650-363-4088 or jsharma@smcgov.org.
