Design Guidelines for Small Cell Wireless Facilities

The City of San Bruno is in the process of developing new regulations and design guidelines for small cell wireless facilities in response to recent changes in Federal Law that will take effect in 2019 that will give carriers greater access to install wireless facilities in the public right-of-way and in utility easements.

The City, however, can regulate certain aspects of the design, location, and placement of those facilities. Public input is critical to ensure that these new regulations and guidelines do not detract from the character of San Bruno’s neighborhoods. Therefore, we are asking every resident to get involved and make their voice heard. The San Bruno Planning Commission held study sessions on this topic in October, November, and January. The next meeting regarding small cell wireless will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., where staff will be presenting a new Small Cell Wireless Ordinance and Design and Siting Guidelines, and Engineering Design Standards for review and comment. City Council review and adoption of the ordinance and regulations is projected for March/April 2019. More information about past and future meetings as well as background information and answers to frequently asked questions can be found on the City’s website at:www.sanbruno.ca.gov/SmallCells
The City welcomes all input from the public in this decision-making process.
