Bill Gipe, activity chairman of the Sons in Retirement Club, arranged a wonderful visit and tour of the Peninsula Museum of Art located in Burlingame as the Club’s April activity. The group arrived at 11:00 am and was so fortunate to be greeted by Ruth Waters, Founder and Executive Director of the Museum. This museum is a little known impressive facility located in the north Peninsula. Ruth is very well known and has been honored by U. S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier and California State Senator Jerry Hill.
In attendance were SIR Members Roger Kelly, his wife Nancy (Burlingame), Bill Gipe and his friend Fran (South San Francisco), and David Nigel (San Bruno).

It was so fortunate that those present received a fabulous tour by Director Waters who gave an overview of the Museum, its mission, special features, and described some of the sixty studios rented by active artists. She then led and group on an in-depth and informative tour lasting an hour and a half. The group viewed all types of artistic creations ranging from paintings of a wide spectrum of subjects, fancy hats that were so beautiful, impressive sculptures of stone, wood carvings, and other materials.
A Seattle native, Ruth Waters graduated from Stanford University in 1955 and started working in hardwoods in 1957 (her mediums now include hardwoods, bronze, marble, constructed room-size sculpture, and painting). She has exhibited extensively in Northern California, Seattle, Michigan, Washington, DC, and New York, as well as in China and Ireland.

The participants enjoyed a wonderful activity. Thanks was extended to Bill Gipe for his coordination of such a variety of activities and events enjoyed by the Club members each month.
