SAN BRUNO RESIDENTS WANT INCREASED
STREET REPAIR SERVICES
RESIDENTS PERCEIVE THE CONDITION OF LOCAL ROADS AS A GROWING PROBLEM
San Bruno, CA – A recently commissioned independent survey shows that while San Bruno residents are satisfied with the services they are receiving from the City, they also want better maintenance and support for local street repair. With percentages as high as 78.5%, residents requested better pothole, street and hazard repair programs.
Residents also highly valued other public safety and public works services, including maintaining neighborhood police patrols, maintaining and attracting local businesses and San Bruno’s parks and playgrounds, and investing and repairing local park structures for children and youth.
The community survey was conducted March 22 to March 26, 2019 by opinion research firm Godbe Research, who has extensive experience polling in the Peninsula.
“We’re gratified that our residents feel that we’re doing a good job with the services we provide,” said City Manager Jovan Grogan. “Our City works hard to keep San Bruno a safe and secure place to live, do business, and raise a family. To this end, we recently launched a fiscal sustainability effort to assess and improve City finances, with the goal of ensuring that we can continue providing high-quality baseline services as well as enhance the services that our residents value the most,” he added. “Over 80% of our residents agree that the City’s eighty-nine miles of streets need additional help, which has been identified by our team as a top priority.”
Residents also agreed the City needs locally-controlled, voter-approved funding for these types of projects that cannot be taken by the State or other government entities.
“Many of our roads have not had a major rehabilitation in over 30 years, including many residential streets.” said San Bruno Public Works Director Jimmy Tan. “Should additional funding become available, our department looks forward to enhancing pothole and road repair efforts citywide by increasing the rate of repair and adding more residential streets to the annual street rehabilitation program.”
“We look forward to continuing to discuss our vital community service needs and evaluating how best to maintain these community and public works services,” continued City Manager Jovan Grogan. “We are committed to keeping the public informed about the steps we can take to ensure that San Bruno provides the kinds of services our residents desire and expanding local control over taxpayer dollars.”
