County Health Issues Statement About Recent Local Measles Cases

As of April 17, 2019, San Mateo County has four confirmed measles cases this year. San Mateo County Health communicable disease investigators are following these cases and getting regular updates from other jurisdictions to advise those who may have been exposed to measles to consult with their local health care providers. San Mateo County Health does not believe that there is further risk of measles to the public from these cases, but out of an abundance of caution on Monday, April 15, issued a Health Advisory to local health care providers with guidance on recognizing symptoms and reporting suspected cases. Wildflower Season: Edgewood Park Safety & Parking Tips

The San Mateo County Parks Department is reminding park visitors about safety and parking tips during wildflower season when the park experiences heavier traffic than usual. As the park’s popularity has grown, so have the demands on the limited parking spaces especially during the spring when visitors are also reminded to enjoy the views by treadling lightly on established trails and take photos, not flowers. The high amount of traffic and speed of travel on Edgewood Road also requires extra attention. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, use a ride share service or enter the park at alternate locations. LEARN MORE

County of San Mateo Celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The County's Office of Public Safety Communications is recognizing its 911 dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week April 14-20, 2019, with fun Hawaiian theme days, a special visit from County Manager Mike Callagy, a photo booth, awards, and more. This week-long event is a time to celebrate and thank those who dedicate their lives to serving the public and providing high-quality law enforcement, fire and medical dispatch services 24/7 to San Mateo County. It's also a time to honor the County's Dispatcher of the Year. This year Erin Haggarty was nominated for her positive attitude, reliability and sound practices and judgement. LEARN MORE

San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program Launches New Website

The San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program recently unveiled a new website. The go-to location for news, events and updates about anti-trafficking efforts, the new site also includes an online request form for an anti-trafficking poster and for email updates. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors in 2016 approved the creation of the San Mateo County Human Trafficking Program to establish partnerships among County agencies, law enforcement and organizations dedicated to anti-trafficking efforts. Anti-trafficking efforts in San Mateo County are largely funded by the Measure K sales tax. LEARN MORE

Peninsula Clean Energy Saves Customers $18 Million, Earns National Recognition

Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE), San Mateo County’s official electricity provider, released a new estimate that it saved San Mateo County customers $18 million on their electricity bills in 2018, while also earning San Mateo County and its 20 cities national recognition for commitment to renewable energy. This year the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized San Mateo County and all 20 of its cities as new members of its national Green Power Community program.The EPA also individually honored 15 cities, plus the County of San Mateo, that have opted to purchase 100 percent renewable energy from PCE for their municipal operations through its voluntary ECO100 green power program.
