3rd Annual Veteran of the Year Luncheon

The San Mateo County Veterans Commission proudly invites you to the 3rd Annual Veteran of the Year luncheon. The event will be held on Thursday, November 8th at the San Mateo Marriott Hotel.

At the luncheon, we will honor Phyllis Jacquay, a U.S. Army nurse who served in Vietnam, as Veteran of the Year; San Mateo County Blue Star Moms President Brenda Ternullo as Patriot of the Year; and LifeMoves as Enterprise of the Year.

Tickets are $60 per person / $50 for veterans.

VETERAN OF THE YEAR – Phyllis Jacquay
Phyllis Jacquay is a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a registered nurse. Upon her return from deployment, Phyllis continued her nursing career at Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City. She is the definition of “unsung hero” and in retirement, volunteered at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto and currently at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park, where she assists with Chaplain services. Phyllis also gives of her time at the St. Francis Center in North Fair Oaks, helping with clothing distribution to those in need.

PATRIOT OF THE YEAR – Brenda Ternullo
Brenda Ternullo is the embodiment of a patriot – serving as President of the San Mateo County Blue Star Moms for many years, and as Secretary for the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. She comes from a military family; her father, uncle, aunt and two brothers served in the U.S. Navy and her husband and son served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Brenda serves on the Avenue of the Flags and Wreaths Across America committees. She has served veterans, along with her Blue Star Moms chapter, for over seven years, organizing mailings to our troops overseas, barbeque and game nights at the Menlo Park VA Hospital, and distribution of patriotic quilts (which she helps create) to veterans.

ENTERPRISE OF THE YEAR – LifeMoves
LifeMoves is the largest and most innovative non-profit committed to ending the cycle of homelessness for families and individuals in San Mateo County and Silicon Valley. Its mission is to provide interim housing and supportive services for the homeless to rapidly return to stable housing and long-term self-sufficiency. Many clients are veterans who return home from deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan unable to care for themselves and their families. Last year, LifeMoves served 40 veteran families, and nearly 90% of veteran families served at their shelters exited to permanent housing.

The San Mateo County Veterans Commission proudly invites you to attend the Third Annual Veteran of the Year Luncheon where awards will be presented to the Veteran of the Year, the Patriot of the Year, and the Enterprise Support Partner of the Year.

The featured Keynote Speaker is U.S. Marine Corp (Ret.) Lieutenant General Jan C. Huly, President & CEO, Marines’ Memorial Association and Foundation

Tickets are are being offered by invitation only. The cost of luncheon tickets are $50 for veterans, per person and $60 plus $5.39 processing fee for non-veterans. Please note that you can ONLY purchase one ticket at a time.
