Women’s Basketball: SKYLINE 58, CSM 49 In First Meeting Of Season

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SKYLINE 58, CSM 49 IN FIRST MEETING OF SEASON SERIES

Morgan Vurek scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Skyline College over visiting College of San Mateo, 58-49, Friday night (Jan. 11) in a Coast North Conference women’s basketball game. Keri La and Olga Faasolo each added ten points for the Lady Trojans. Faasolo and Kalisi Fononga had eight rebounds apiece.

Megan Jajeh led CSM scorers with nine points (all on 3-pointers), while Kaitlyn Tamondong had nine assists, scored five points, and had four rebounds. Kyana Wiley led San Mateo rebounders with five and scored seven points.

Skyline led, 11-9, at the first quarter break and maintained that 2-point margin, 28-26, at halftime following an even second period. Skyline extended the advantage to 42-37 after three quarters and closed with a 16-12 advantage in the final period.

Both teams are now 1-1 after the first week of Coast North Conference play. Skyline is 12-6 overall. CSM is 6-8.

San Mateo County’s two community college women’s basketball programs will meet again on Feb. 6 -- at CSM in the second half of Coast North play.

Up next this week: On Wednesday (Jan. 16), San Mateo finally plays at home, hosting league favorite City College of San Francisco at 5 p.m. Skyline entertains winless Ohlone at 7 p.m.
