$118K Odor Control System Planned for Sewage Plant

San Clemente Engineers hope to make stink in North Beach a thing of the past.

If a new odor control system planned for the San Clemente Wastewater Treatment Plant functions as planned, the occasional pungent stench that wafts around North Beach will be a thing of the past.

The $118,000 system is up for approval Tuesday by the San Clemente City Council. It will consist of a 6,500-gallon double-walled tank, mechanical and electrical improvements, spill containment walls and an emergency overflow connection to the sewer system, according to the staff report.

The city installed a test system to calibrate its operation and make sure it worked properly. The system reduces odors by injecting ferric chloride into the waste stream as it enters the plant, according to the report.

The San Clemente City Council meets 6 p.m. Tuesday at the San Clemente Civic Center, 100 Avenida Presidio.
