City Gets Christmas Spirit, Refunds 182 Christmas Eve Street Sweeping Tickets
Citing confusion over the definition of city holidays, San Clemente will wave the tickets and amend its city code to avoid a repeat.

The City of San Clemente will waive all parking citations given on Christmas Eve that resulted from residents leaving their parked cars on the street during scheduled street sweeping. Residents will not be required to pay the fines associated with the tickets they received on this day. A total of 182 residents received tickets from street sweeping enforcement officers on Christmas Eve. The City will reimburse residents who have already paid their parking tickets.
According to Mayor Chris Hamm, “The City Council understands how busy the holiday season can be and though street sweeping is a priority, common sense must prevail. Moving forward, staff is working to amend the City code to ensure that street sweeping will not occur on December 24th in the future, and the definition of “city holidays” will be more clear. People have enough stress during the holiday season without having to decipher which days are considered exempt. Happy Holidays from your City Staff and City Council.”
