Council to Review Commercial Truck Ticketing Policy
The move comes in response to a campaign led by a North Beach plumber to stop enforcement patrols from ticketing trucks with ladders on their racks or equipment in their beds.

If you own a construction firm, plumbing company or similar small business, it may get easier to park on San Clemente streets as early as next week.
The San Clemente City Council Tuesday will re-examine its commercial vehicle ordinance. According to the staff report on the agenda item, the council in 2009 adopted an ordinance subjecting commercial vehicles parked on city streets to ticketing. In response to the complaints of some residents, that definition included pickup trucks with modifications like overhead racks loaded with ladders and tools.
Over the past several years, a North Beach plumber active in local politics, George Gregory, has led opposition to the ordinance, collecting signatures in a petition against it.
He argues that the law unfairly penalizes small businesses, and pointed out much larger utility and city trucks park with impunity.
The council Tuesday will hear a report on the issue from San Clemente Police Services Chief Lt. John Coppock, and they will presumably decide whether to amend the code to exempt from ticketing modified trucks loaded with equipment.
The city council meets 6 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers, 100 Avenida Presidio.
