Council to Use Feds' $352,000 for Sidewalks, Facades, Nonprofits

The San Clemente City Council Tuesday is set to vote on allocating CDBG funds.

The San Clemente City Council Tuesday allocated $352,000 from the feds to build a sidewalk on Calle Seville, fund loans to help homes and businesses spruce up facades and donate to local nonprofits that provide shelter to battered women and housing assistance, among other services.

The cash is from a Community Development Block Grant through Housing and Urban Development, given each year to cities all over the country to allow them to improve public facilities and social services.

The city will break up the money as follows:

  • $134,600 to the Calle Seville sidewalk project
  • $75,000 to housing rehab loans
  • $20,000 to commercial rehab loans
  • $52,000 to youth, homeless, senior and other low-to-moderate income assistance programs
  • $70,400 for administration, including housing counseling
