Though skies were obscured by a thick marine layer all day Saturday, the beach and San Clemente Pier were filled with beachgoers, spectators and athletes.

The pier hosted a classic car show; antique woodies lined the south rail. Food and other types of vendors clustered around the base of the pier as paddlers kayaked around buoys in some of the first heats of the California Waterman and Waterwoman Championships.

The band Miller Time Boogie played on the stage north of the pier Saturday evening.
