Hit-and-Run Driver at Large, Victim Recovering

Incredibly, though Bogert will be in a wheelchair for a week or so, he suffers no permanent damage.

But the suspect, who witnesses said ran the stop sign before she hit Bogert at about 1:30 p.m., is still at large.

As Bogert was being dragged between the two wheels of the gold SUV with Nevada plates, his friend Connor Covey got a good look at the driver's face as he pounded on the window screaming for her to stop.

Covey said the driver appeared to be a middle-aged Asian-looking woman with black, slightly frizzy hair that fell past her shoulders. She was wearing sunglasses with lenses that are dark on top and fade to transparent. The lines around her mouth and on her face made her appear as if she were a cigarette smoker, Covey said.

The Nevada plate bore an image of the city of Las Vegas.

Bogert said leading up to the crash, he was trying out Covey's new skateboard that the boy had received for his birthday. Bogert, Covey and Covey's girlfriend Eloise Steen were waiting for Bogert's girlfriend Shayla Nicks to finish showering after her shift at the.

Bogert said he attempted a power stop in the intersection, swiftly turning the board perpendicular to the line of travel in order to halt. But the wheels were new and slippery, causing him to fall on his rear. Bogert said he had not fully righted himself when the driver struck him.

The wheels left wide abrasions on his back and ground his pelvis into the roadbed, chipping part of the bone, but not breaking it. The accident left his arms and legs scraped up and chunks of the asphalt in his stomach.

Shauna Bogert, the victim's mother, said surgeons had to anesthetize him in order to remove the debris and sew him up with 13 stitches. He returned from Mission Hospital Thursday evening and is recuperating in his North Beach home.
