Plane Goes Over Cliff on Catalina

The single-engine Cessna missed the runway, but the three passengers escaped injury.

A small plane missed the runway at Catalina Island Airport in the Sky and tumbled onto a roadway below a cliff, but no one was injured, authorities said.

The crash happened at 4:08 p.m. at the airport outside Avalon, according to the Catalina Island Conservancy, which operates the airport.

None of the three people aboard the single-engine Cessna 172 was injured and witnesses reported all three “were able to leave the wreckage on their own,” conservancy spokeswoman Laura Mecoy said.
