San Clemente Doctor Accused Of Murdering Wife: Pretrial Begins

Dr. Eric Sills reported his wife Susann died after an apparent fall down the stairs. In 2019 he was arrested on suspicion of her murder.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Pretrial in the case of an Orange County doctor who reported finding his wife dead at the bottom of the stairs of their San Clemente home in 2016 was expected to begin Tuesday.

Dr. Eric Scott Sills, 55 of San Clemente is accused of murdering his wife Susann Sills in their San Clemente home, the Orange County District Attorney's Office reports.

Homicide investigators arrested Dr. Eric Scott Sills of San Clemente was arrested on April 25, 2019, the Orange County District Attorney's Office reported.

"Dr. Sills was on his way to work when he was arrested on suspicion of murder," they said at the time of the arrest.

He was booked into the Orange County Jail and posted a $1 million bail four days later.

The scene of the crime...

In November of 2016, Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to a residence on the 10 block of Via Cancion, in the early morning hours.

"Dr. Sills told deputies that he woke up to find his wife, Susann Sills, 45, of San Clemente, deceased at the bottom of the stairs after an apparent fall," OCDA's office reported at that time.

Deputies secured the scene, and due to the unknown nature of the death, the OCSD Homicide unit was called to investigate.

Ongoing investigations...

In November 2017, after an extensive investigation including an autopsy, the OCSD Coroner division determined that the death was a homicide.

Since that time, OCSD Homicide investigators in conjunction with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office have continued to investigate the death of Susann Sills.

Dr. Eric Sills was arrested two years later while on his way to work as a fertility doctor. He posted a $1 million bond shortly thereafter.

The pair co-founded a Carlsbad fertility center the year before her death.
