Legendary San Clemente Jazz Bassist Dies

Max Bennett, a jazz bassist who has played with some of the greatest artists of the past century, has died at age 90.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Jazz bassist Max Bennett has died in San Clemente, where he lived, it was announced Friday. He was 90.

Bennett's music career spanned seven decades in which he toured, performed or recorded with such iconic artists, a family spokesperson said.

Bennett was known to have performed with the likes of Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Aretha Franklin, Elvis, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, The Beach Boys, Quincy Jones, Motown greats including Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, as well as numerous jazz luminaries including Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, and Dizzy Gillespie, Roger S. Pondel of PondelWilkinson said in a statement.
