South County Man Had Weapons Cache, Threatened Parents: OCSD

A 42-year-old San Clemente man was arrested when multiple illegal weapons were found in his possession, OC Sheriff's Department reports.

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A 42-year-old man found with numerous illegal weapons in his possession is under arrest, Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

Orange County Sheriff's Department has declined to name the suspect, according to spokeswoman Carrie Braun.

"He may have a mental health issue," Braun told Patch. "The department is working closely to provide mental health needs for those in the community and in custody."

The suspect has been booked on nine felony counts of possession of an assault weapon and seven felony counts of possession of a short barrel rifle or shotgun.

The exact nature of the threats he made toward his parents was not disclosed.

"The man was immediately connected with services in custody and he will continue to receive case management services," Braun said over Twitter. "Diligent work by the OC Sheriff's investigators prevented a credible threat," Braun said.

Follow-up by the Behavioral Health division will ensure that the man gets the help that he needs, according to Braun.
