San Clemente's Coronavirus Totals: 66 Total Test Positive

On Thursday, Orange County Health Care Agency alerted the public that 6 more people have died, and 255 remain in the hospital due to COVID19

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — Six more people died due to COVID-19, and 100 more have tested positive for coronavirus in Orange County, Thursday. More testing in our area is opening up, and with more tested residents come greater numbers of coronavirus totals.

In San Clemente, 66 total residents have tested positive since Orange County Health Care began gathering data for the disease.

The total number of cases since the pandemic began is 5,744, and 142 Orange County residents have died due to the disease. Officials say 59 of the fatalities were skilled nursing home residents.

The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus decreased from 274 to 255 on Thursday, with the number of patients in intensive care increasing from 101 to 105.

Anaheim and Santa Ana have been the hardest hit in the county since the start of the global pandemic, with Santa Ana's total positive cases topping 1,000 and Anaheim at just over 950.

Out of Orange County's 3.2 million residents, thus far only 112,004 have been tested for coronavirus. As more residents get tested, a clearer picture on the virus will emerge. Testing sites were released across the county, Thursday, including added testing sites at some area CVS stores and other venues.

The Orange County Health Care Agency estimates that since the coronavirus testing began, 2,209 residents have recovered from the illness.

The county of Orange has identified these testing and screening sites for both essential workers and the general public. Read on for more information on how to receive those tests.

CVS has also opened more free screening sites in Orange County for people who think that they have been exposed to coronavirus.

Surf City's pier has opened this week. Residents can walk, run and even fish from the historic Huntington Beach pier that was closed in late March due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the county of Orange continues to find ways to help business owners through the financial crisis of having been closed for upwards of six weeks.

One day after the Orange County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to dole out $75 million in federal funding, county CEO Frank Kim said that he and his staff were working hard to push the money out to cities as quickly as possible.

Thus far, the county has received a total of $554 million from the federal government's coronavirus relief bill, and plans to use $453 million of it on expenses such as overtime for staff responding to coronavirus emergencies, as well as public health and medical costs.
