South Orange County Braces For Power Shutoffs Amid High Winds

San Diego Gas & Electric may shut off power to 21,480 residents in parts of SD and OC to mitigate fire risk amid arriving Santa Ana winds.

NORTH COUNTY, CA — Strong, high winds were expected to elevate fire risk in northern San Diego County and parts of Orange County beginning Sunday evening. San Diego Gas & Electric announced that 21,480 customers could have their power shut off Monday and Tuesday to mitigate wildfire potential.

This round of Public Safety Power Shutoffs could affect residents in Camp Pendleton, East San Juan Capistrano, Fallbrook, Oceanside, Palavering Reservation and San Clemente — where winds will be the strongest overnight Sunday.

The utility notified customers by email, phone and text message in those areas to warn of the potentially widespread shutoffs.
