Special Kids Set Sail for the 19th Time

It's a Fish for Life trip, taking kids with physical and mental challenges on the high seas. The organization is based in San Clemente.


At “8:30ish” Saturday the opening ceremonies will kick of the 19th Annual Fishing for Life.

The organization, which takes children with physical and mental challenges fishing, was started by San Clemente resident Jim Holden.

Speaking will be:

  • Donna Kalez – General Manager of the Dana Wharf
  • Mary Payten – California Dept of Fish & Game
  • Lisa Bartlett – Mayor of Dana Point
  • Tim Brown – Mayor of San Clemente
  • Lt Mike Jansen – Harbor Master
  • Jim Everett – Ex Ram Quarterback - NFL

Next, the Lord’s Prayer will be followed by the National Anthem, Holden said.

“Then we roll a Red Carpet down the gangplank and introduce each special needs child individually,” said Holden. “Once everyone is boarded, we shove off to the theme song of the Pirates of the Caribbean blasting!”
