Suspect Barricades In Stolen Car In San Clemente After Pursuit

SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A vehicle pursuit in San Clemente Friday afternoon has ended with a driver barricading themselves inside a vehicle for over two hours, Orange County Sheriff's Department officers say.

The suspect was believed to be armed. It is not yet known if anyone has been injured in the incident.

South County deputies attempted to pull over a Cadillac Escalade that was believed to be stolen at 2 p.m. Friday, OCSD spokesperson Carrie Braun tells Patch. The driver refused to yield, a pursuit ensued and deputies followed the driver to the east end of Avenida Pico as of 4:45 p.m.

Braun said that the driver has remained inside the vehicle for "about an hour, and brandished a weapon."

It is not known if anyone else is inside the Escalade as of this report.

OCSD SWAT teams, Crisis Negotiations, and Orange County Fire Authority have all responded to the scene.

There is no danger to the public, authorities say. All have been advised to stay clear of the area during the incident.
