The Whereabouts Release Two Live EPs Hard & Soft
The San Clemente band is releasing two live EPs featuring songs written and recorded in a San Juan Capistrano storage room.

The process of taking an idea and turning it into a song is riddled with logistical complications, mental barriers, and often times, emotional outbursts. “Can’t we just do it to have fun, and not worry about the industrial aspects of music?” asks Andrew Talley, guitarist of the local South Orange County band, The Whereabouts. San Clemente resident and singer of the band, CJ Hazard, believes the answer is yes.
“We started writing these songs a couple of years ago, and decided it was just time to release them,” explains the frontman, who also happens to be the band’s current producer. “The band sound-proofed our practice space, and I brought in all of my nice recording gear, and together we turned storage room 20 into a recording studio.
After their release of “Light Inside” in September of 2017, the band spent weeks practicing, recording, and continuing to write songs. CJ describes the day the band tracked 8 of the 9 recordings slated for release: “It was just one of those days that everyone was pretty much on point. I had just conducted some business in Los Angeles, and barely made the last train to get home. I was just happy to be at practice on time.” The band recorded the bulk of their new EPs in that single night; February 6, 2018 to be exact.

The last song on the new EP “soft” is called “Late,” and was literally written, played, and recorded on the first take. “We had never played that song before,” says CJ. “Andrew just started jamming a 12 bar blues, and the rest of the instrumentation just played out over the next couple of minutes while I talked about nearly missing my train. I’m excited we got that magical take recorded and that we can share it with our fans.”
The two EPs are set to release globally over the internet on Friday, May 18, 2018. Spotify and Apple Music, among many others, will have the releases available. The band will be playing an intimate release show with local rock and rollers, The Sbins, that same night at Boscoe’s Bar and Grill in Lake Forest, CA. The show is free, and the bands encourage music fans to come by and get a dose of good, local rock music.
