72nd Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Bombing: Film Screening of Legacy of the Nisei Veterans

The San Leandro History Museum will screen Legacy of the Nisei Veterans, a documentary film produced by the San Leandro Public Library on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The showing is designed to honor the 72nd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor for those who served, those who remember, and those who want to know more about this important story. The film runs 90 minutes.

A documentary film about the beginning of the war also will be shown between the Legacy screenings.

Legacy of the Nisei Veterans shares the experiences of 10 men in the segregated 100th/442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most decorated unit of its size in U.S. history, and the largely unknown story of the Military Intelligence Service (MIS). The MIS members, who served in the South Pacific, were key to the campaign against Japan by translating documents, interrogating prisoners, monitoring radio transmissions and collecting battlefield information. The British Political Warfare Mission was a joint Anglo communications effort contributing to the victory over Japan. The film has been shown in libraries and universities all over the state and is used in the curriculum at various California institutions.

Join us in learning more about this infamous day from those who lived it. The film includes stories from Gish Endo, Yutaka Kobori and Fred Shimasaki - all long time members of the San Leandro Community.
