Alleged Purse Snatcher Nabbed Trying To 'Get Out Of San Leandro'
But a juvenile suspect was arrested Sunday after a neighbor observed and overheard two teens cutting through backyards.

A crime that seems to have started on a bus in San Leandro ended with one juvenile in custody and a lesson in how timely tips can lead to arrests.
San Leandro police say that shortly after noon on Sunday they received a report of two male juveniles running through yards on Sunnyside Drive.

The citizen who reported the incident saw the juveniles walking through her front yard into a neighbor’s yard, and heard one say, “We have to hurry up and get out of San Leandro.”
The citizen, who thought a crime had just been committed, told police she saw saw the teens running in a northerly direction, jumping over fences and traveling through yards.
Officers located both juveniles around Durant Avenue and Beverly Avenue. They attempted to flee. One was apprehended but the other got away.

The suspect in custody had a women's hand bag.
Officers believe both juveniles had been riding on an AC Transit bus when they saw a woman going through her bag, noticed that she had items of value and followed her off the bus.
One boy grabbed her bag and both fled. Police say the juvenile taken into custody had a stolen purse.
