Bay Area Hiring Slowdown Began Before Shelter In Place Order

On a year-over-year basis, hiring was down 9.1 percent in March when the coronavirus health orders were issued.

BAY AREA — Hiring was down in March in the Bay Area by a seasonally-adjusted 4.8 percent on a month-over-month basis, according to LinkedIn's monthly workforce report for April.

In February, before the shelter-in-place orders went into effect in the region, hiring was off by 1.2 percent. "The decline in hiring makes a lot of sense given the shelter-in-place since mid-March," Rachel Massaro, director of research for Joint Venture Silicon Valley, said in a statement.
