Chinese Christian School Team Wins State 'Odyssey of the Mind'

Middle schoolers from San Leandro now go to the international finals.

 

A team of middle school students from San Leandro campus of the Chinese Christian Schools won first place in their division at the Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament that was held in Brentwood on March 23. 

The Odyssey is a cross-disciplinary competition that combines engineering, theatrics, debate and problem-solving. It carries no monetary prize but is designed to sharpen students' thinking while encouraging them to have fun.

The students (pictured above) are Rianna Kwong, Latisha Sumardy, Annie Lai, Lawrence Lee, Victor Lei, Anson Lee.

They built a 15-gram balsa wood structure that sustained a weight of 625 pounds.

They will now compete in the World Tournament in May to be held at Michigan State University from May 22-25. 

Chinese Christian Schools started their first OM team in 2009-10.

A middle school team from CCS placed second in last year’s state tournament and went to the World Tournament in Iowa.
