Fire Crews Extinguish Blaze on 144th Avenue

Firefighters have extinguished a blaze at a multiplex at 1320 144th Ave.
The call came in at 6:01 p.m. Crews responded to find a column of smoke emanating from the four-unit building.

Battalion chief T.J. Welch said a preliminary examination suggests that the fire started in the second unit.
The building is a four-unit rectangle with each apartment being two floors.

Welch said the fire seems to have started on the first floor of the second unit and was largely contained there.
Resident Victoria Tyler said her teenagers were home at the time of the blaze and called her at her place of work in Richmond.
"They were pretty scared," she said. "I told them to get out of there."
Tyler isn't sure whether residents will be allowed back into the building tonight.
"The Red Cross is on the way to help us," she said.
One person was examined at the scene for smoke inhalation, Welch said.
